A Carter Lumber Staff Accountant is responsible for compiling information to help prepare consolidated financial statements and analysis. This position is responsible for identifying, recording, and reporting various capital expenditures and other financial accounting duties as directed. Effective communication with the field and internal departments is mandatory for the success of this position.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent experience
- Working knowledge of financial statements and fixed asset accounting
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects concurrently
- Strong interpersonal skills and be able to work in a team setting
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel preferred but not necessary
Responsibilities:
Fixed Assets
- Track construction projects pertaining to real estate from start to finish including coding invoices and maintaining project folders while keeping organization a top priority for our construction department.
- Capitalize and maintain fixed assets including acquisitions, disposals and transfers according to company requirements and GAAP standards.
- Perform regular reconciliations of fixed asset accounts, including CIP, and resolving any discrepancies.
- Responsible for running and posting depreciation while analyzing the variances that occur month-to month and ensuring all depreciable assets are accounted for in the fixed asset system.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve discrepancies in fixed asset records.
- Work with the team to update and track fixed assets reporting to provide management with accurate detailed reports of capital spending.
Consolidated Accounting
- Calculate, record and reconcile monthly accrual for real estate taxes to ensure accurate and timely expenses for all properties.
- Calculate, record and reconcile monthly accrual for personal property taxes to ensure accurate and timely expenses for applicable store locations.
- Participate in financial audits by providing documentation and support as needed.
- Other ad hoc journal entries and projects as it relates to consolidated accounting.
