A Carter Lumber Roof Walker is responsible for providing professional customer service to contractors and do-it-yourselfers by unloading materials at jobsites or loading customers at the stores. This is accomplished by assisting delivery drivers on roofing deliveries by using company vehicles and equipment to deliver products to customers in a safe and timely manner, along with assisting customers in selecting and loading items they have purchased. Safety, inventory control, and product knowledge are all components of this position. A strong belief in the mission and goals of the company are necessary to this position. 

Requirements:
  • Must be willing and able to get on roofs of varying heights and pitches to spread shingles down. 
  • Friendly, outgoing personality
  • Familiarity with building materials is helpful
  • Ability to participate effectively as a team member
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays
Responsibilities
Delivery Activities:
  • Assists in rooftop deliveries by staging shingles on a variety of roofs.
  • Assists in verifying that material is correct before leaving the yard for delivery.
  • Assists in verifying that all material has been unloaded at the jobsite.
  • Make sure that safety measures are taken when unloading shingles.
Yard Activities:
  • Contributes to maintaining the inventory in the yard by conducting cycle counts, keeping the yard organized, ensuring the correct material is shipped and received.
  • Follows all policies and procedures in the yard including sales, inventory and safety.
  • Properly uses and maintains all equipment
Knowledge & Training:
  • Identifies personal growth needs and learning opportunities.
  • Completes required orientation and safety training.
  • Commits to continued learning on products, packages, procedures and more.
Physical Aspects:
  • Standing and/or walking for up to 4 hours consistently across a variety of surfaces
  • Lifting up to 100 lbs. regularly without assistance
  • Regular stooping and bending at the waist to load/unload material
  • Occasional kneeling and crawling to assist with product retrieval or loading
  • Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions year-round
