The goal of our Operations Manager Training program is to train and develop an individual who is ready to become a Carter Lumber Operational Manager at the conclusion of a 20-25 week program. The program consists of, but is not limited to, facilitated training, job shadowing, on‐the‐job, self‐study and online training. At the conclusion of his/her training, the OMT must demonstrate a solid understanding of Carter Lumber retail operations.
The focus of the training will be in several areas including POS operations, Human Resources, Inventory Management, Delivery Systems, and other areas as defined by local management.
Learns the day to day operations of managing and maintaining a Carter Lumber retail store
Learns how to effectively manage inventory levels and loss prevention
Gain a full understanding of Carter Lumbers POS and delivery management system
Learns how to coach associates for success within the organization through effective communication, associate observation, timely feedback, recognition and performance management/performance reviews
Learns how to manage associates schedules, monitor attendance and address issues accordingly
Learns recruitment process of new hires to fill open and anticipated labor needs of hourly and salaried associates.
Review and adjust merchandise assortment opportunities by applying knowledge gained during training
Understands and participates in coaching selling skills & sales forecasting
Learns to analyze margin and profit levers. Develops action plans to address opportunities
High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree or higher desired
Dedication to customer service
Strong communication and intrapersonal skills
Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed
Experience in retail merchandising, business development, human resources or applicable areas of businesses is preferred
